What is transformative coaching; what does it mean?
Therapy is for deeper self inquiry. The goals in therapy are for self growth and/or healing. Coaching is not therapy and is in service to a specific outcome (goal). Personal and spiritual growth will happen but they are part of the greater process of working towards a defined goal.
Transformative coaching is about shifting our way of working by creating a new paradigm to work from. That in essence is personal transformation and self empowerment. We do this by learning to be at choice, be responsible for our life and working in the now, where we are today, and not by going back to our past for clues. This is where transformative coaching starts.
For example one may be in coaching to create a more satisfactory employment situation or to have the future life they long for, each of which will require some self inquiry, but the inquiry is only in service to the the creation of a practical way of being that will have definite applications to a predefined outcome.
Learning to be at choice now, in the present moment, is where transformation begins.transformative coach works with you to make the impossible possible by holding you to being in a place of choice and bringing into conversation what old ways of Being-in-the-world no longer are serving you and can not bring the new life you want. Transformation is empowerment, action, and changing to a new paradigm. What outcomes do clients have?
better relationships enjoyment of their life’s work
a successful relationship to work
ability to be creative and express their creativity
The balance they always wished for in life.
How is executive coaching different?
Two things can effect executive coaching. Who is the client; is it the company or is it the individual? Both may haveleftthe same goals or not. As an example coaching may be part of a strategic initiative and the goal are set by the initiative. Or it may be more personal in that the client (executive) has a successful career but his strategies that worked well before are not effective in going to the next level.
The second item that effects executive coaching is that the interface if life goals and work goals are usually more dominant as part of the conversation. It is where humanity comes into corporate operations. Corporations and executives alike gain a great deal in productive engagement and the results of transformative coaching are profitable. |
